Welcome

Mary Lou and I will try to keep you updated here on the adventures aboard our Catalina 25 - Evenstar.

We had been interested in sailing since we first looked at Chrysler sailboats at a dealer back around 1975. Lack of funds, followed by lack of time and eventually raising a family put the thought of learning to sail on hold for a number of years. It wasn't until 2003 that we seriously considered it again. Before we had even taken any type of lessons we bought a 1980 17-ft. Siren.

From Past Boats

We took sailing lessons at Alum Creek Lake near Columbus, Ohio in the late spring of 2004 and sailed the Siren through out that summer. We even took it on a road trip to Canada to meet up with other Siren owners in the city where these were originally built - Owen Sound, Ontario. We still have the Siren in storage (haven't been able to part with it) and get it out to a lake on occasion.

By late in 2004 we knew we would want a larger boat and saw this 1986 Catalina 22 on a dealer lot in Toledo. Here the boat, kameloon, is at our first dock at the St. Mary's Boat Club - ready for a night aboard with the pop-top up and the canvas cover installed for additional headroom...

From Past Boats

We sailed the 22 in 2005 and 2006 when we decided to move up in size again (three-foot-itis). This time we wanted to track down a late '80s Catalina 25 - which would be about as big as we could get and still be able to trailer.

Evenstar is a 1989 wing keel/tall rig purchased in the fall of 2006. We found her in a mountain lake in Virginia. We had a custom trailer built in Toledo and hoisted her onto the trailer for the trip back to Ohio.

Our home port is Catawba Island on Lake Erie.
